China’s Busiest Ports Brace for Impact as Super Typhoon Bavi Approaches
Super Typhoon Bavi is forecast to make landfall near Taiwan and eastern China on Friday, bringing severe weather conditions that are expected to disrupt maritime operations across some of the region’s busiest ports. The storm is expected to generate wind gusts of up to 100 knots and waves reaching 12 metres, creating hazardous conditions for vessels and port infrastructure.

Ports across Zhejiang and Fujian provinces, including the major hub of Ningbo, are preparing for potential closures as authorities and terminal operators implement emergency measures. Efforts are underway to secure containers, suspend vulnerable operations, and minimize damage ahead of the typhoon’s arrival.

The disruption is expected to impact all vessel segments, with bulk carriers and commodity shipments particularly exposed. Key cargoes at risk include iron ore, coal, bauxite, soybeans, and nickel ore, raising concerns over supply chain delays and congestion throughout the region. Shipping lines and cargo owners are closely monitoring the situation as the industry prepares for potential schedule disruptions and operational bottlenecks in the coming days.
