Colombo Port Posts Rs. 32.2 Billion Profit in First Eight Months of 2025

Colombo Port Posts Rs. 32.2 Billion Profit in First Eight Months of 2025
The Colombo Port has reported a net after-tax profit of Rs. 32.2 billion for the first eight months of 2025, according to the Ministry of Transport, Highways, Ports, and Civil Aviation.

This marks a significant increase of Rs. 13 billion compared to the Rs. 18.9 billion recorded during the same period in 2024 representing 71% year-on-year growth. The profit has also exceeded the projected target of Rs. 21 billion for the period.

The Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) attributes this strong performance to several key factors:

1. Ongoing development initiatives
2. Enhanced operational efficiency
3. A 6% increase in container handling compared to early 2024
4. Completion of major infrastructure projects, including the Eastern Terminal and Jaya Container Terminal, which are expected to boost capacity further

Additional drivers include the renewal of terminal service agreements, capacity expansion, and prudent cost management.

The SLPA noted that the profits will be reinvested to advance strategic plans aimed at solidifying Colombo Port’s role as a leading regional transshipment hub.
