The Customs Trade Union Alliance has commenced trade union action today (24), citing unresolved issues including long-delayed promotions that have reportedly been pending for the past six years.
Union representatives stated that despite repeated reminders and multiple rounds of discussions with the relevant authorities, no concrete measures have been taken to address their concerns. The prolonged delay in career progression has triggered growing dissatisfaction among customs officers.
As an initial step in their protest, customs officers across the island are wearing black armbands while continuing their duties at all Customs offices nationwide. The action signals escalating frustration while ensuring that essential services remain operational.
A high-level meeting involving the Ministry of Finance, the Public Service Commission, and other relevant stakeholders is scheduled for 26 February 2026 to discuss the union’s grievances.
Following the outcome of this meeting, the Customs Trade Union Alliance is expected to convene on 27 February to decide on the next course of action regarding the ongoing industrial measures.
