Hamburg Port fire and explosions leave many injured
A major fire at the Port of Hamburg triggered multiple explosions and injured six people, disrupting port and inland shipping operations on August 25.

The blaze reportedly began when a vehicle parked inside a warehouse caught fire in the afternoon. By the time emergency crews arrived, the vehicle was already engulfed in flames, and the fire quickly spread to adjacent storage areas.

Online footage shows gas canisters exploding in the intense heat, with shrapnel propelled over 100 metres. Locals reported hearing sporadic blasts well into the night as firefighters worked to contain the blaze. The explosions forced the closure of nearby roads after flying debris landed on carriageways.

Images from the scene reveal burning containers and heavy smoke rising from a container yard. While ocean-going shipping remains unaffected, inland shipping and port operations have experienced disruptions.

At the height of the emergency, more than 120 firefighters were deployed. The situation is now largely under control, though crews continue to tackle smaller fires in the surrounding area.

Six people are confirmed injured, including one in critical condition and another seriously hurt.

Authorities plan to launch a full investigation into the cause once the site is declared safe.
