Sri Lanka will launch its Paperless Customs Declaration Processing System on 1 October, marking a major step in the digitalisation of the country's trade and customs processes. The system will integrate LankaSign digital signatures with the ASYCUDA platform, enabling customs declarations and supporting documents to be submitted online in a secure and legally recognised manner.
According to government officials, the initiative is expected to accelerate customs clearance, improve transparency, reduce paperwork, and strengthen fraud prevention through enhanced document authentication. Authorities also noted that while customs clearing agents will need to adapt to digital workflows, the transition is not expected to result in job losses.
The move is expected to benefit importers, exporters, and logistics stakeholders by improving efficiency, reducing administrative delays, and supporting Sri Lanka's broader efforts to modernise trade facilitation and public services.
