US-Iran Strikes Escalate, Hormuz Tensions Rise

US-Iran Strikes Escalate, Hormuz Tensions Rise
The US and Iran exchanged fresh strikes across the Middle East for a second straight day, further undermining a fragile ceasefire agreed in April. US forces targeted Iranian military, surveillance and radar facilities, while Iran responded with attacks on US-linked military assets in Bahrain, Kuwait and Jordan.

Tensions intensified around the Strait of Hormuz after Iranian state media claimed the vital shipping route had been closed and the IRGC reported attacks on two oil tankers. However, US Central Command said commercial vessels were still transiting the waterway. The conflicting reports fueled concerns over potential disruptions to global oil supplies.

Oil markets reacted swiftly, with Brent crude rising about 2% to near $95 per barrel. The latest exchange of strikes has heightened fears of a broader regional conflict and increased risks to maritime trade through one of the world's most important energy corridors.
