Air Freight Rates Expected to Remain High in 2025 for Certain Routes
Air freight rates are expected to remain elevated into 2025, driven primarily by strong demand across key trade lanes. According to Jan Krems, President of United Cargo, rates will likely rise during the first quarter of 2025, fueled by persistent demand for airfreight, particularly from the Asia-Pacific region. This is supported by ongoing high volumes of e-commerce and the need for quicker transportation, which continue to push up prices. Additionally, airlines are allocating more capacity to high-demand routes like those from Asia to North America and Europe, where rates have risen due to the robust performance of e-commerce and consumer goods.
However, not all trade routes will experience the same rate increases. For instance, while Asia-to-Europe and Asia-to-North America lanes are seeing higher rates, some other regions may not experience similar rate hikes, depending on the volume and capacity dynamics
Thus, while certain sectors of the air freight market are expected to maintain their higher rates, others might not see the same upward pressure.
