Blue Water Shipping has opened a new facility at the Port of Brisbane
Nearly 200 guests gathered to celebrate the grand opening of Blue Water Shipping’s new Queensland depot and distribution hub, located on a 51,780 m² site at Fisherman Islands, Port of Brisbane, Australia. This state-of-the-art facility consolidates Blue Water Shipping’s port operations, which were previously spread across temporary leased sites at the port for over two years.
The new logistics hub features a 15,000 m² warehouse, a 500 m² administrative building, parking facilities, more than 30,000 m² of hardstand area, a wash bay, and a bond store. Designed to support the company’s continued growth, it aims to streamline operations and enhance service delivery.
David Keir, Chief Commercial Officer at Port of Brisbane Pty Ltd, highlighted the project’s success, noting, “We’re pleased to have delivered this high-quality, purpose-built facility for Blue Water Shipping in under 12 months, providing them with a permanent base to grow from. Our teams collaborated closely with Blue Water Shipping throughout the design phase to ensure a flexible and efficient solution for their needs.”
The facility was constructed with a strong focus on sustainability, earning a 5-star equivalent sustainability rating. Key green features include a 99kW rooftop solar system, an Enviroconcepts water treatment system, low-carbon concrete, and a steel frame design that reduces steel usage. These initiatives are estimated to reduce embodied carbon by 11%, saving approximately 1,464 tonnes of CO2.
Construction began in January 2024 and was completed in November 2024.
