Colombo International Maritime and Logistics Conference 2024, scheduled for November
The Colombo International Maritime and Logistics Conference rotates among the maritime nations of South Asia, focusing on uniting the shipping, ports, and logistics sectors to discuss regional advancements. South Asia, an emerging economic powerhouse led by India, serves as a critical link in the Indian Ocean’s shipping and logistics networks, connecting the Middle East to East Asia through the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal. The development of ports and maritime connectivity is central to economic growth in the region.
This conference is designed to address regional maritime geography, investment opportunities, infrastructure gaps, and security concerns, including cyber threats. It also emphasizes the importance of logistics, backward integration services, and talent development. Key topics include rising competition in the global maritime industry, sustainability in regional ports, and the future direction of port and logistics performance.
The 7th edition of the conference will take place from November 27 to 29 at the Cinnamon Grand in Colombo, Sri Lanka. By 2025, the Port of Colombo is expected to nearly double its container capacity, positioning it as one of the largest transshipment hubs in the Indian Ocean. The port aims to become a green port with automated terminals and eco-friendly fuel supplies. With India projected to become the world’s third-largest economy by 2030, new opportunities will emerge for shipping and logistics companies to expand their services in South Asia. Sri Lanka, strategically located, will be instrumental in supporting regional growth in the shipping and logistics industry.
The conference will gather international port operators, shipping companies, logistics providers, ancillary service providers, and technology partners, offering a global perspective with a South Asian focus. It presents an ideal platform to explore regional maritime economies, discover investment opportunities, and build commercial partnerships to meet the growing logistics needs of the region.
As in previous years, the event will feature numerous international speakers and is expected to attract around 500 delegates over its three-day span, including port visits and networking sessions.
