Edelweiss Air has announced the resumption of its scheduled winter flights to Sri Lanka
Swiss airline Edelweiss Air has resumed its seasonal flight operations to Sri Lanka, with the inaugural flight landing at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) yesterday at 9:25 a.m., carrying 221 passengers. The arrival was celebrated with a ceremonial water salute organized by Airport and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) Ltd.
Edelweiss offers an exceptional onboard experience across its three classes—27 in Business, 76 in Premium Economy, and 211 in Economy—boasting a total capacity of 314 seats.
The A340-300 aircraft will operate flights from October 31, 2024, to May 9, 2025, with plans for two direct flights to Colombo during the winter season of 2025. This new service provides travelers with a convenient direct link to Zurich, which serves as a gateway to numerous onward connections across Europe, North America, and beyond, facilitated by Swiss International Airlines.
Wholly owned by Swiss International Airlines and part of the Lufthansa Group, Edelweiss operates direct routes to various destinations from its hub at Zurich Airport. The airline's flights are booked under the codeshare agreement with SWISS International and Lufthansa, operated by Edelweiss (WK).
Founded in 1995 and named after the iconic Edelweiss flower—a symbol of Switzerland’s resilience and beauty—the airline has earned a strong reputation for quality and customer satisfaction in the aviation sector. Last season, from November 3, 2023, to May 17, 2024, Edelweiss transported over 5,500 passengers to Sri Lanka and returned more than 3,100 passengers.
“We extend our gratitude to Swiss International Airlines, operated by Edelweiss, for their significant contributions to Sri Lanka's aviation and tourism sectors this season. We are delighted to welcome Edelweiss back to our skies and thank United Ventures Ltd. for their invaluable support as the General Sales Agent for Lufthansa Group in Sri Lanka,” stated a representative from AASL.
