Emirates has placed an order for five additional Boeing 777 freighters, while signs suggest that Boeing's recent strike may soon conclude

Emirates has announced an order for five additional Boeing 777 freighters, choosing to expand its fleet with these aircraft despite recent industry developments. This order brings its total 777F backlog with Boeing to 14, scheduled for delivery through the end of 2026. Additionally, Emirates has extended leases on four 777Fs with Dubai Aerospace Enterprise, projecting a fleet of 21 freighters by 2026 a notable increase from its current 11.

The airline also plans to convert 10 passenger Boeing 777-300ERs into freighters to meet growing demand.

Airbus remains in consideration for Emirates’ future freighter needs, with a decision expected by year-end on the composition of its fleet for 2028 and beyond, with the B777-8F and A350-1000F among the potential options.

HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, CEO of Emirates Airline and Group, highlighted this investment as a response to strong demand for Emirates’ air cargo services and to enhance flexibility and connectivity for its global customer base. He noted, “Demand for Emirates’ air cargo services has been booming, reflecting Dubai’s position as a trusted logistics hub and the success of Emirates SkyCargo’s industry-focused solutions.”

Meanwhile, Boeing’s labor negotiations appear close to resolution, with workers scheduled to vote on Wednesday on a new deal that could potentially end the month-long strike. The proposal reportedly includes a 35% wage increase, described by the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers as “worthy of consideration.”
