Folk Maritime introduces its new India Gulf Express service
Folk Maritime, a Saudi feeder and short-sea shipping company backed by the nation’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), has launched its fourth service, connecting Saudi Arabia, India, and Iraq through the Arabian Gulf. The new India Gulf service will initially operate on a 14-day schedule, with plans to transition to a weekly service by December.
The service will be inaugurated on October 30 with the 1,800 TEU vessel Asterios, which will carry import cargo from India to Umm Qasr. The India Gulf route will link Umm Qasr, Dammam, Nhava Sheva, and Mundra, marking a significant step in Folk Maritime’s expansion. This follows the company’s recent launch of the India Red Sea service in September, connecting Jeddah to Nhava Sheva and Mundra via the Bab el-Mandeb Strait.
Since its inaugural service in April 2024, Folk Maritime has made notable strides, acquiring its first vessel and expanding its network despite challenges posed by the Red Sea crisis.
Poul Hestbaek, CEO of Folk Maritime, commented, “We are proud to introduce our first service to the Arabian Gulf, addressing a crucial gap in the logistics supply chain and supporting Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 by positioning Dammam as a key logistics hub. This launch is a significant milestone for Folk Maritime and underscores our role as the first Saudi company to provide this service.”
Kim Larsen, Chief Commercial Officer, added, “Expanding our service routes to meet customer needs is a key priority. The India Gulf Express Service enhances our coverage and provides more comprehensive solutions for our customers.”
