Hapag-Lloyd inks a decade-long agreement for green methanol fuel supply from China
Hapag-Lloyd has entered a long-term agreement with China's Goldwind to secure 250,000 tonnes of green methanol annually, starting in 2026. This deal underscores the carrier's commitment to decarbonizing its operations as part of its Strategy 2030. The agreement extends over a decade and builds upon recent strides in sustainable shipping fuels within the industry.
The green methanol will support Hapag-Lloyd’s retrofitting of five vessels with dual-fuel engines, a move funded through customer-backed green-insetting programs. This initiative aligns with broader efforts by major carriers, including Maersk, to transition to alternative fuels like methanol as a step towards reducing carbon emissions in maritime logistics.
