IndiGo Airlines to launch daily flights to Jaffna, Sri Lanka

IndiGo, an Indian airline, will launch non-stop daily flights between Chennai in southern India and Jaffna in northern Sri Lanka starting September 1.

Reservations for these flights began on Thursday (1).

Jaffna will be IndiGo's second destination in Sri Lanka after Colombo, making it the airline's 34th international and 122nd overall destination within its expansive 6E network, the airline announced.

"This strategic initiative will further enhance the strong cultural and trade ties between India and Sri Lanka, characterized by cooperation in commerce, infrastructure development, and air connectivity."

India is the leading source of tourist arrivals to Sri Lanka. According to the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA), 214,910 Indian tourists visited between January 1 and July 21 this year.

IndiGo also noted a growing interest in travel to Jaffna.

"This 75-minute flight will significantly cut travel time, making Jaffna, Sri Lanka, even more accessible," said Vinay Malhotra, Head of Global Sales at IndiGo.

The demand for travel between Chennai and Jaffna is clear, with over 21,000 passengers flying this route in just nine months last year, according to the airline.

Tickets can be booked via the website www.goIndiGo.in or through the mobile app. (Colombo/Aug2/2024)"
