Maersk introduces new surcharges across the globe
Danish ocean carrier Maersk has announced the implementation of new peak season surcharges (PSS) on a global scale.
Beginning November 4, the company will adjust the PSS for all dry containers shipped from Indian ports to the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait. The surcharge will be $400 per container for non-shipper owned containers to the UAE and $300 per container to Kuwait.
Additionally, effective November 10, Maersk will increase the peak season surcharge for shipments from North Europe (excluding France) to Nigeria, Ghana, Senegal, Benin, Guinea, Mauritania, and Cape Verde. The surcharge will be set at $250 per container for 20 dry, 40 dry, 40 high dry, and 45 high dry containers.
Furthermore, the Copenhagen-based carrier will revise the PSS for shipments originating from China, Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, and Timor Leste to New Zealand, Fiji Islands, and French Polynesia, effective November 9. The surcharge will be $750 for 20 dry containers and $1,500 for 40 dry and high dry containers, with the same rates applying for reef containers.
For shipments from Taiwan to New Zealand, Fiji Islands, and French Polynesia, effective November 24, the PSS will be the same: $750 for 20 dry containers and $1,500 for 40 dry and high dry containers. Additionally, the same rates will apply for shipments from China, Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, and Timor Leste to American Samoa, also effective November 24.
