Major Shipping Alliances for 2024/2025
The global shipping industry is undergoing a significant transformation with the realignment of major alliances in 2024 and 2025. The Premier Alliance, comprising HMM, ONE, and Yang Ming, will launch in February 2025 after their exit from THE Alliance, while MSC will begin operating independently. In January 2025, the Gemini Cooperation between Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd will take shape following their departure from 2M and THE Alliance, respectively. Meanwhile, the long-standing 2M Alliance between MSC and Maersk will come to an end after a decade of operations. The Ocean Alliance, which includes CMA CGM, Cosco, OOCL, and Evergreen, has extended its partnership through 2032, reinforcing its substantial 3.8 million TEU capacity. THE Alliance, originally launched in 2017, will also see changes, as members like Hapag-Lloyd transition to new cooperations, marking a new era in global shipping.
