MSC extends its ship acquisition spree
Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) continues its aggressive fleet expansion, recently adding 20 dual-fuel ships from China’s New Times Shipbuilding, following its long-term charter deals for four 23,000 TEU vessels from Japanese providers. These new orders are part of MSC’s larger strategy to solidify its position as the largest container carrier, surpassing Maersk. Currently, MSC’s order book is the largest in the industry, with 113 vessels in production amounting to 1.46 million TEUs, which includes ships aimed at lower-carbon fuels like LNG to support sustainability goals.
This ongoing expansion is part of MSC’s goal to increase its self-owned capacity and remain flexible with fuel options to meet both immediate operational needs and longer-term emission targets
