MSC Unveils New Independent East/West Service Network
The world's largest container shipping company, MSC, has unveiled its new independent service network for East/West trades, set to launch in February 2025, coinciding with the end of its 2M alliance with Maersk.
The upcoming standalone network will feature five major trade routes with a total of 34 loops:
• 7 loops connecting Asia and North Europe
• 6 loops linking Asia and the Mediterranean
• 4 loops between Asia and the North America West Coast
• 6 loops between Asia and the North America East Coast
• 11 loops for the Transatlantic routes
MSC's new network will offer weekly services via the Suez Canal, covering over 1,900 direct port pairs, or via the Cape of Good Hope, covering more than 1,800 direct port pairs.
Soren Toft, CEO of MSC, emphasized that the company’s new network, supplemented by select slot swap agreements, will ensure comprehensive coverage across all East/West routes. He highlighted that MSC will now provide routing options through both the Suez Canal and the Cape of Good Hope, thanks to full operational control of their network.
MSC also noted that this reconfiguration of the East/West network will not affect its tonnage or deployment for other global routes.
