MSC vessel loses multiple containers amid turbulent seas off the coast of Portugal

On March 20, 2025, the container ship MSC Houston V, operated by MSC, lost 15 containers in the Atlantic Ocean near Portugal. This incident occurred due to severe weather conditions caused by Storm Martinho. The Portuguese-flagged ship, which was traveling from Piraeus, Greece, to Liverpool, UK, experienced wind gusts reaching 48 knots. These strong winds caused containers to fall overboard and others to collapse on the ship's deck. For safety reasons and to assess the damage, the ship was redirected to Vigo, Spain, on March 21. Port authorities in Vigo are currently inspecting the condition of the remaining containers and their cargo.
