OOCL has finalized charter agreements with Seaspan for six new container ships, each with a capacity of 13,000 TEU
COSCO-owned ocean carrier Orient Overseas Container Lines (OOCL) has secured charter agreements with Seaspan for six brand new container ships, each with a capacity of 13,000 TEU, at a total maximum value of $1.6 billion (RMB 11.2 billion).
The new vessels are scheduled for delivery between the fourth quarter of 2026 and the first quarter of 2028, and they will be chartered for a period of 15 years from the time of delivery.
Weidong Tao, CEO of OOCL, commented on the strategic significance of this deal, stating, “This initiative will ensure steady growth in our shipping capacity, capitalize on economies of scale, and enhance the core competitiveness of our fleet and services. Furthermore, it will solidify our position in the industry and support our ongoing global expansion.”
Key figures involved in the agreement include Bing Chen, Chairman, President, and CEO of Seaspan; Kenny Ye, Chief Operating Officer of OOCL; and Nick Lau, Senior Director of Business Development APAC at Seaspan.
