Singapore and Shandong have signed an agreement to establish a Green and Digital Shipping Corridor
On October 9, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) and China’s Shandong Provincial Transport Department signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to create the Singapore-Shandong Green and Digital Shipping Corridor (GDSC).
The MoU was signed by MPA Chief Executive Teo Eng Dih and Shandong Provincial Transport Department Deputy Director Gao Hongyan during the 25th Singapore-Shandong Business Council meeting in Singapore. The event was witnessed by council co-chairmen Chee Hong Tat, Singapore’s Minister for Transport and Second Minister for Finance, and Zhou Naixiang, Governor of Shandong.
This GDSC will leverage the growing trade and shipping activity between Singapore and Shandong, along with their strong research and innovation ecosystems, to promote the development of green and digital solutions for the maritime industry in the Bohai and Yellow Sea regions.
As part of the MoU, both parties will collaborate with stakeholders such as maritime administrations, port operators, shipyards, academic institutions, and maritime companies. The focus will be on advancing digitalization and low-carbon initiatives, exploring emerging technologies, fostering training for alternative fuel handling, sharing knowledge on shore power, and streamlining port clearance processes through digital information exchange.
This agreement marks the second Green and Digital Shipping Corridor between Singapore and China, following the 2023 establishment of the Singapore-Tianjin GDSC.
