Fire aboard a ship at Colombo Port has been successfully extinguished

A fire broke out this morning on a Singaporean vessel anchored at Colombo Port.

Keith D. Bernard, Chairman of the Ports Authority, stated that prompt measures were taken to extinguish the blaze.

The ship, MSC CAPETOWN III, had arrived at Colombo Port from Singapore the previous evening and was docked at the JCT 4 Jetty when the fire occurred. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The Minister of Ports and Civil Aviation, Nimal Siripala De Silva, has instructed the Ports Authority chairman to conduct an immediate investigation into the incident.""
