The Port of Colombo celebrates a key achievement with the arrival of the 24,000 TEU container vessel, Ever Arm, marking a new milestone in its operational capacity

The Sri Lanka Port Authority (SLPA) has announced the arrival of the 24,000 TEU container vessel, Ever Arm, at the Colombo East Container Terminal (CECT) on September 5th 2024.

Flagged in Taiwan, this colossal ship represents a significant milestone for the Port of Colombo, South Asia's busiest port. With a length of 400 meters, a beam of 60 meters, and a summer draught of 17.027 meters, the Ever Arm boasts advanced propulsion technology that optimizes operational efficiency and cargo capacity.

"We are thrilled to welcome the Ever Arm, part of Evergreen’s fleet operating on the China-Europe-Mediterranean (CEM) route. This mega vessel, with a capacity of 24,000 TEUs, successfully docked at the Colombo East Container Terminal, where our 55-meter-high ship-to-shore cranes facilitated seamless operations. After departing from Rotterdam Maasvlakte, the Ever Arm is now heading to Kaohsiung, Taiwan, marking another achievement for our terminal," said U Kumara, Director of Operations and Acting Chief Operating Officer of CECT.

Built in 2022 by Samsung Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. at their Geoje Shipyard, the vessel has a gross tonnage of 235,579 and a deadweight capacity of 241,960 metric tonnes.

"This landmark event highlights the excellence of the Sri Lanka Ports Authority and underscores the state-of-the-art technology and infrastructure at the CECT, our newly commissioned deep-water terminal," noted Lal Weerasinghe, Additional Managing Director (Operations).
